Update 1.2 “The Genetic Slot-Machine”
Today we are releasing version 1.2 of Chronomutants, a big content update marking the 1st completely content complete version of the rules.
New stuff:
- 97 New Mutations
- Mutations have been rebalanced to make taking a mutation reflect the intended risk/reward
- 3 New Minor Anomalies
- 6 New Major Anomalies
- 4 New Pieces of Future Tech
Updated Stuff:
- Mutations/Anomalies with redundant effects have been removed or folded into similar entries.
- All Random Tables can now be rolled with standard Polyhedral Dice
- Rules Update: Damage from Temporal Sources (Rewrite Reality, Precognition, Etc.) now bypasses Defenses as the Default
- The Monkey’s Paw Item now works the same as Rewrite Reality
- Several entries have been cleaned up to use consistent language.
Included Documents:
- All Rules/Tables are in one bookmarked master document
- Separate redundant documents for Anomalies, Future Tech, and Character Classes have been removed for the sake of simplicity
- The outdated “Primer” and setting specific “Map of the Timeline” have been removed for now
- The Playtest Adventure Pack (A starter adventure, 3 pregenerated characters, and some rough GM guidelines) now lives with other public documents
- Formatting has been adjusted for readability
Update Roadmap:
- Updated layout for the master rulebook. The book will have a new visual design, instead of the very plain version that exists now
- An updated character sheet based on playtest feedback (more room to write stuff in).
- A smaller printable zine version of the rulebook
- Digital tool to host the random tables, which would make the smaller size of the zine rulebook possible
I think going forward the Devlog will be bi-weekly instead of weekly, every other Tuesday starting on the 11th of July. That will help my workflow by putting my playtest weekends opposite of blog weeks. Don’t worry I still have this week's blog all about the 97 new mutations Right Here.
And speaking of Playtesting, I will be taking sign-ups for the next round of open playtest games soon. I’m aiming to start the next series of games in August. It’ll pop up on Reddit (if it still exists) twitter (if it still exists) Bluesky, and probably mention it in a blog post here.
